I’m still not certain if the ending is terrible or amazing—though I am tending toward the latter, to be honest. Let me explain. For a good portion of my viewing experience, I was prepared to give this a negative assessment. It begins acceptably enough before wandering towards its finish. But when it arrives, things become completely wild. My feelings about the final section changed entirely; at first, I thought it was silly (and it probably is), but the sheer absurdity of the last moments makes it genuinely amusing. Don’t let the film's promotional images mislead you. It looks as if it will feature a computer-generated cat, however, a real cat appears for most of the movie, at least from what I could tell. Even on Disney+, they used that CGI cover, which diminishes the film and would have discouraged me—if I hadn’t been participating in this Disney viewing spree. It's a really odd decision by those involved with the production. It’s worth mentioning here that I greatly enjoyed the 1965 original movie; it is considerably better than this remake. The cast of the earlier film are excellent, but I actually think highly of the actors in this version. Dean Jones unexpectedly appears in this one, playing a different role entirely, which was nice to see. The new performers include Christina Ricci (as Patti) and Doug E. Doug (as Zeke), who carry the main roles. Ricci isn't as good as Hayley Mills, and Doug doesn’t measure up to Jones, but I did like them together onscreen. Michael McKean (as Peter) also appears, along with Pixar regular John Ratzenberger (as Dusty)—who, together with Mark Christopher Lawrence (as Rollo), have a role in the conclusion. This film has a very low average rating on Letterboxd, which I can definitely see why. For me, though, it was so strange that it somehow manages to work in an unusual way. Would I suggest watching this? I'm not sure. Did I find it entertaining? Surprisingly, yes. ...and yes, I realize I’ve just written a five-paragraph review about *That Darn Cat* (1997)... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
