I’d been anticipating Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) for some time, though I couldn't quite put my finger on why. Given how let down I’d been by previous installments in the franchise, I figured this one would probably follow suit. I saw it as soon as it was released and got precisely what I anticipated—I didn't enjoy it. To be sure, it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, but it still fell short of being enjoyable. The performances were weak, the story felt contrived, and a significant character from earlier films met an incredibly disrespectful end. What little saved the film were the visually appealing cinematography and the impressive gore effects. Despite all that, I’m curious to see what they do next, even though I can't explain why. 3.5/5.
