The film serves as a clear example that an excellent initial idea doesn’t always translate into a successful finished product. It really feels like a statement of “We had something good here, but we weren’t sure how to proceed.” The reason for this—whether due to a shortage of creativity or other factors—remains unclear. The notion of a living Teddy Bear interacting with the daily existence of a thirty-something who hasn't achieved much seemed like it could be quite appealing. However, the film quickly loses momentum; the conversations become tiresome and most of the plot involves Ted using drugs and attempting to pursue superficial women (despite not having fully functional anatomy), while the protagonist struggles to maintain his long-term relationship with a woman far above his station and his childhood best friend, Ted. Crude, vulgar, and impolite, *Ted* offers little entertainment beyond its simple humor. Unless you’re an enthusiastic follower of *Family Guy*, the 1980s *Flash Gordon*, live near Boston, or find it amusing to hear profanity frequently, this movie probably isn't for you.
