The initial moments are entertaining and unusual, but that appeal doesn't last long at all. Those familiar with the television show will likely find something to like here; however, since I haven’t watched it myself, I can’t say for sure. On its own, this film isn't very good. It does begin in a strange fashion—and that’s not necessarily a bad thing—with Nathan Lane being enjoyable as Spot, even if his performance feels like a repeat of Timon from 'The Lion King', to be frank. Without Lane, the other characters and voices become quite bothersome. Beyond that, there’s barely any plot to speak of, which makes it hard to stay engaged. I think it would have been more successful if it had started in a similar peculiar style but then established a story that was genuinely engaging. Instead, they seemed to take the simple route and, I suppose, depended heavily on material from the TV series. 'Teacher’s Pet' isn't something I enjoyed, even though it doesn’t overstay its welcome. I did notice and appreciate some nods to other Disney films, though.
