Daniel, portrayed by Samy Naceri, is a pizza delivery driver in Marseille who’s close to achieving his biggest goals: sleeping with his friend Lily, played by Marion Cotillard, and getting his taxi license. A notification reminds him that to get the license, he'll have to put the former on hold and head to the licensing center. However, some celebratory recklessness leads to him losing it quickly because he drives like he’s riding a bike, which doesn’t sit well with the police. Fortunately, he’s apprehended by the somewhat clumsy officer Émilien, played by Frédéric Diefenthal, who has more pressing concerns involving some elusive bank robbers. Believing Daniel's driving abilities and familiarity with the city could help him find them, Émilien enlists his assistance—despite Daniel being unable to actually drive. This sets up an odd partnership. Luc Besson’s film is a humorous send-up of countless cop/buddy/heist movies, and it largely succeeds in its aim. While there's plenty of action on the streets, the developing relationship between the two men provides some laughs, making it obvious that Daniel would be a more effective police officer than Émilien ever could be. Emma Wiklund’s character, Petra, adds another layer with her unrequited feelings for Émilien and his general lack of competence. Naceri and Diefenthal have good chemistry together, delivering an engaging comedy that culminates in a fast-paced nod to the “Italian Job” from 1969, along with glimpses suggesting a possible follow-up. I found it enjoyable.
