The possibility of exploring the decline of a prominent conductor seemed promising. However, ‘TÁR’ spends its considerable two hours and thirty-eight minutes avoiding key developments in the story, opting instead for lengthy sequences that frequently feel pointless. It falls to the audience to decide things like whether Tár is deserving of sympathy or responsible for her actions. In some respects, this approach works effectively. Despite this, the movie proved too tedious and confusing to become engaging. Given the subject matter revolves around orchestral conducting, I thought Blanchett’s portrayal of the technique was unbelievable, even though she delivered a strong performance overall. The portions featuring Mahler's 5th Symphony did sound impressive, so that number will serve as my assessment. 5/10
