Getting married feels like facing mortality itself. Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell portray two Los Angeles police officers who couldn't be more different; they find themselves wrongly accused and must work together to prove their innocence. This film embraces a hyper-masculine style, characteristic of its era, delivering spirited entertainment packed with exciting action sequences and memorable lines. Stallone portrays Tango, the well-dressed and refined officer, while Russell embodies Cash, the impulsive cop who prefers action over deliberation; they are distinct personalities but both highly capable in their roles. The movie largely succeeds due to the dynamic between Stallone and Russell, whose characters engage in lively arguments and playful exchanges. Director Andrey Konchalovskiy stages the action effectively, though the film's latter third loses momentum as the unlikely partners develop a sense of camaraderie and the story moves toward its predictable resolution. The limited screen time for Jack Palance’s antagonist doesn’t help, nor does Brion James’ questionable British accent when playing his chief enforcer, Requin. Teri Hatcher appears to serve as a conduit between the two leads, seemingly present only as decoration. Despite these issues, the writing and performances from the lead actors keep this film a beloved choice for many who enjoyed it during the late 1980s. It earns a rating of 7/10.
