Nobuko Miyamoto, the woman after whom the film is named, owns a modest noodle shop where the same customers appear daily, creating a somewhat predictable atmosphere. This changes when "Gorô" (played by Tsutomu Yamazaki) and his younger companion, "Gun" (Ken Watanabe), show up with the intention of assisting her in achieving her goal of elevating her business. The restaurant also functions as a central point for several related narratives that explore the lives of her patrons and their connection to food—and it’s about more than just sustenance. A particularly amusing episode involves an elderly woman who deliberately damages the produce before refusing to make a purchase, much to the frustration of the shopkeeper. There's also a charming story concerning a terminally ill housewife who, in her final moments, gets up to prepare a wonderful meal for her family; and a gangster—dressed entirely in white—who discovers an unusual way to enjoy his dinner. The film is humorous and eccentric, featuring truly captivating performances, and the two-hour runtime passes quickly.
