"Tamara," a film from Jeremy Haft released between 2005 and 2006, is a Canadian movie centered on a girl—played by Jenna Dewan Tatum—who doesn't quite fit in at her Winnipeg high school. After being the target of cruel jokes and a harmful prank, she meets an unfortunate end. However, using witchcraft, she comes back as someone trying to be alluring, seeking retribution. Matthew Marsden and Claudette Mink portray a married couple who work as a teacher and administrator at the school. The film borrows from movies like "Carrie" (1976), “The Rage: Carrie 2” (1998), “The House on Sorority Row” (1983) – which was later remade as “Sorority Row” in 2009—"The Craft" (1996), and "The Faculty" (1998). Despite these influences, it manages to put its own spin on things, with some original ideas alongside decent gore if that’s something you enjoy. It seems to have impacted later films such as “I’ll Always Know what you did Last Summer” (2006) and particularly "Jennifer's Body" (2009). If you are into this type of movie, chances are you will find something to appreciate here. There were some sections that felt a little off or didn't quite work as well as they could have; with a few changes, it might have been really good like “The Rage: Carrie 2.” But overall, it’s watchable and does possess some unique elements. Marsden and Mink are convincing in their roles as the adult characters. The female actors are attractive (like Katie Stuart as Chloe), but aside from Mink, they all seem a bit too thin; seriously, ladies, have something to eat! The movie has a running time of 1 hour and 38 minutes and was filmed in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jeffrey Reddick wrote the screenplay. I’d give it a B or B-minus.
