It's a perfect example of a Western film. John Wayne’s presence is commanding. His journey takes him to the untamed West, where he resolutely confronts any conflict that arises. The movie truly shines because of Ella Raines in her role as a captivating romantic interest. Perhaps I am giving too much away by mentioning this, since another woman appears initially, behaving demurely and with great decorum, whereas Ella arrives with an unrestrained energy—a gorgeous, untamed spirit that any man would desire. There's considerable feeling conveyed, primarily through Ella’s performance; Wayne’s character mostly maintains composure, seeming somewhat taken aback by the intensity of emotion and peril surrounding him, but he remains unwavering.
