It stands on its own as a decent film, despite being connected to TAKEN. I must say, I did find it enjoyable, but tying it to 'Taken' and making it the third installment proved to be a detriment. The story felt disconnected from what came before, especially when considering that beyond the actors returning from earlier films, the narrative takes place in an entirely new setting. While the phone call between father and daughter was kept as a recurring element, it didn’t have the same impact as in the first film; it seemed to simply become a familiar feature of the series. The initial portion builds up a mystery that is then resolved later on. This followed the established pattern for the trilogy, but the final section shifted into something resembling 'Mission Impossible'. In the original 'Taken' movies, Bryan Mills operated solo, however, here he assembles a group including a tech specialist and others. It seemed like an attempt to shake things up, though it didn’t quite work. It's likely to be a letdown for those who love 'Taken', but you might appreciate it more if you view it as a standalone movie. I think it could have been a stronger action film had it not been part of the series. Hopefully, this is where they stop, as they’ve indicated. As a trilogy, it didn't quite succeed; perhaps we can say it was mediocre. The initial installment, though, truly was exceptional, setting a new standard. 6.5/10
