This is a genuinely good continuation! *T2 Trainspotting* delivered precisely what I anticipated, and pleasantly, that’s also exactly what I hoped for. I considered it excellent! As I noted in my thoughts on the first film, I didn't connect with the characters—and that remains true for that movie. However, this installment does a remarkable job of getting you invested in the core group; well, excluding Franco, which is best not discussed. It might lack some depth when held up against the 1996 version, but I’d contend it compensates with better developed characters. Even though I had only just seen the original film a few hours earlier, it was wonderful to see Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle return in their roles—and looking older too. I value both films, although for different reasons. This one I genuinely enjoyed, while my previous appreciation stemmed from how skillfully the story was presented. Both are terrific productions, truly.
