Survive is a serviceable disaster movie blending survival themes, end-of-the-world scenarios, and action thrills, though it ultimately feels unfinished. This production from France incorporates familiar components—a family on a boat trip, a sudden and drastic shift in the world's oceans, and touches of crime and horror—that initially seem encouraging. However, despite being reasonably engaging on a surface level, the film doesn’t quite deliver overall. I suspect the primary issue is that certain crucial story elements aren’t explored deeply enough to create something truly significant. Fortunately, the performances are solid, the characters are adequately developed, the central concept and setting are imaginative, and the special effects are well-executed. Ultimately, it's a fairly watchable French survivalist, apocalyptic action thriller that demonstrates potential but would have benefited from greater development of its narrative components. It’s an acceptable way to spend some time.
