Caro Drake, played by Rose Reid, embodies the focused student who enters Oxford University with aspirations of achieving her PhD and honoring her family’s sacrifices. Initially quiet and restrained, she finds herself drawn to Edward (Louis Landau), a captivating but somewhat flirtatious neighbor. As Caro begins to form friendships, she unexpectedly develops feelings for “Kent” (Ruairi O'Connor), an intriguing figure whose devout Christian beliefs present obstacles to any potential relationship. The film then unfolds as a love story set against the backdrop of Oxford’s historic colleges. Several scenes featuring the college dean, portrayed by Phyllis Logan, add depth to what initially seems like a superficial character. Simon Callow contributes to some intense theoretical discussions, and Mark Williams delivers an honest, encouraging – and quite witty – lecture that is welcome at this point in the narrative. There's a noticeable spark between Reid and O’Connor on screen, and while it occasionally leans toward introspection, it offers a compelling look at two people discovering themselves, their values, and navigating life together. It turned out to be different than I anticipated, and I think it’s worth seeing. P.S.: There's a question-and-answer session included that I would advise watching after you’ve seen the film!
