James Gunn infused his characteristic style while successfully recreating the wonder of the 1978 Superman movie, but with contemporary elements. The film possessed a lovely aesthetic reminiscent of the early years of the comic books. David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan gave truly excellent performances—and Krypto was completely captivating! I’ve not always been keen on Gunn's more immature jokes, but in this instance, they felt refreshing and complemented Superman’s universe effectively. Nevertheless, I still favor the visual presentation and atmosphere of Man of Steel’s Krypton. If you connect with Man of Steel more—that’s perfectly fine. For my taste, though, the 1978 film's warmth and appeal remain unmatched, and this new installment skillfully combines those qualities. Given its positive reception, I can easily imagine a Flash Gordon remake being possible—and that has me even more eager for future projects. Rating: 9.1/10
