James Gunn’s take on Superman feels like it puts Supergirl in an inferior position. It seems as though ChatGPT was responsible for the story and dialogue; the humor is reminiscent of Marvel films but feels worn out and excessive, which is a common problem these days. The performances from the cast are disappointing across the board, particularly David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. Clark and Lois don’t connect well on screen. The movie is so poorly executed that it resembles an inexpensive imitation of the Superman we all know and enjoy. There's no discernible plot or development for any of the characters! It essentially consists of two hours focused on CGI involving a dog named Krypto, who is irritating and does a disservice to the many intelligent dogs featured in excellent films. James Gunn’s involvement appears to be this movie’s downfall; his writing style leans toward lazy and self-indulgent comedy, and he seems to prioritize casting friends and family members for financial gain. Events unfold without any logical connection or purpose, lacking a clear story or meaningful growth for the characters. Superman is seen enjoying hot chocolate instead of performing heroic actions. What was the thinking behind that? Zack Snyder envisioned Lex Luthor pitting Superman against Batman, but this film’s storyline revolves around Lex Luthor's plan to damage Superman’s reputation rather than eliminate him. Why have villains in contemporary films become so feeble and reliant on others to confront the heroes? Instead of seeing exciting appearances from the Justice League, we were given unnecessary cameos from a group that isn’t quite as impressive. The visuals are substandard and pull you out of the experience. The musical score is equally bad and fails to inspire. I disliked their treatment of the Superman theme music. It's clear James Gunn was more concerned with creating a Superman film in the style of Marvel. The future of DC seems more uncertain than ever before. If James Gunn intended to address the Israel-Palestine conflict, he should have used authentic names instead of inventing fictional countries. Having seen James Gunn’s Superman, I now appreciate Zack Snyder's Man of Steel even more.
