This film isn’t flawless; it has some pacing issues, a large cast to juggle, and occasionally resorts to awkward storytelling choices. However, as the first movie in the new DCU, it achieves what's most important: setting up the foundation for this ongoing story, presenting us with a hero we can root for, and demonstrating that the director knows exactly what they want to achieve. David Corenswet embodies the Superman of our time: an icon representing compassion, optimism, and, most importantly, decisive action based on his principles. Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult also contribute strong performances as part of a well-balanced main group, and despite its shortcomings, it’s difficult to walk out feeling disappointed. James Gunn makes it clear what he plans to do: the future of DC is in capable hands. I'm eager to see the rest of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. If this direction continues, perhaps DC can finally reach the same heights as its most iconic character. Rating: B+
