r96sk on Superman and the Mole Men

Superman and the Mole Men turned out to be quite good. I had no prior knowledge of it and didn’t anticipate much from a film only lasting 58 minutes, but I ended up enjoying it. It's not exceptionally captivating, but it is an enjoyable Superman movie. George Reeves seemed more convincing as Clark Kent than as Superman—though that might be because he portrays Kent for most of the runtime, and I found him likable in that role. Phyllis Coates’ Lois Lane felt like a proper Lois Lane, which was another good thing. The other actors were fine too. I unexpectedly enjoyed *The Mole Men*, especially considering the obvious constraints the filmmakers faced back in 1951. They appear rather goofy and somewhat ridiculous, but honestly, their simple design worked well enough for me; I was glad to see them on screen. It’s remarkable that this is the first feature film derived from a DC Comics character. It's always interesting to consider what those involved in this project back in 1951 would think if they knew superhero films would become so massive about 70 years later. They were real pioneers!
