Following the destruction of his home world, "Krypton," the central character, wearing a distinctive red cape, now lives on Earth, where he maintains a secret identity as the unassuming “Clark Kent,” employed by a newspaper. When a dangerous message arrives for the editor from an unhinged scientist, the resourceful reporter “Lois Lane” is called in; she appears to have a clear understanding of how to locate this villain. Her capture is rather straightforward, and with the evil genius now using a beam that disintegrates bridges and transforms skyscrapers into pudding-like structures, it’s obvious that "Superman" will need to intervene to rescue her and stop his destructive plans. Will he arrive quickly enough? Are there any real stakes involved? Not really; the narrative feels somewhat underdeveloped—though it delivers ten minutes of energetic action. It seems like a character from “Maleficent” has wandered away from “Sleeping Beauty” to assist the antagonist, as this animated short moves mechanically through its plot.
