I waited more than twenty-five years after its initial release to finally see "Superman" (1978), and I’m glad I did; it's a really good superhero movie, living up to the praise it has received. While some aspects feel dated now, like how Superman flies and Clark Kent’s glasses—they are so terribly unfashionable that they become funny—the film still holds up remarkably well considering it was made in 1977. Even though "Superman" is based on a comic book and centers around superheroes, it also functions as an impressive science fiction movie. The scenes depicting Krypton early on really underscore this point, and Marlon Brando’s performance as Jor-El, Superman's father, is truly exceptional. So, if you are into sci-fi, don’t dismiss "Superman" simply because you think of it as just another superhero film; it offers so much more than that. The script seems to have been crafted without any real regard for budget, resulting in numerous spectacular special effects sequences. The acting is superb across the board, beginning with Christopher Reeve, who delivers a fantastic performance in his first major role. I want to mention something you don’t often hear about: Lex Luthor's girlfriend, Miss Teschmacher, portrayed by Valerie Perrine, is stunningly attractive! Be sure to look out for the scene set around the pool where Ms. Perrine wears a green swimsuit. The film runs a little long at 2 hours and 23 minutes, but it doesn’t feel like it goes on forever.
