It proved to be an enjoyable film, fulfilling everything it appeared to set out to do. It didn't attempt to position itself within the realm of serious science fiction, even though certain reviews elsewhere seemed to indicate that was its aim. Essentially, this is a romantic comedy incorporating a satirical commentary on our reliance on technology, which I imagine resonated uncomfortably with some viewers. I valued seeing something not often found in film: a romantic lead who isn’t exceptionally slender, and the added benefit of her never mentioning her weight. While larger men frequently appear as romantic figures, this is less common for women. The more I observe Melissa McCarthy's performances, the more I recognize nuances in her acting beyond just the comedic aspects. She establishes a strong connection with her fellow performer, and naturally, with the voice and persona of James Corden, whom some people apparently dislike, but I find to be quite entertaining—and, by the way, a talented writer (consider Gavin and Stacey). It’s always possible to scrutinize the plot and identify minor flaws, but if you find yourself doing that, it might suggest you're not embracing the film's tone and should revisit something like 2001 A Space Odyssey for what feels like the umpteenth time. Afterward, when you're seeking some easy laughs and a chance to cuddle up close, this movie would be a good choice. You do realize the title is intended to be ironic, don’t you? I certainly wouldn't give this film a perfect score, but I wanted to counter what seemed like excessively low ratings—the reasons for which, perhaps, are best left unexamined.
