This installment of the franchise continues a losing streak, but I have to admit it’s marginally more engaging than *Superman III*. At least there's an attempt to craft a sensible narrative centering on Supergirl, something that’s missing in the earlier film. Helen Slater is acceptable in the role of Supergirl; any issues with the character stem from the writing itself and not her acting. For my taste, Faye Dunaway stands out as the most enjoyable aspect of the movie. Selena isn't a particularly strong addition to the story, but I believe Dunaway’s portrayal had promise. Peter O’Toole has a brief appearance, and it’s good to see an actor of his caliber involved—speaking of which, it’s unfortunate that Christopher Reeve declined a cameo, though understandably so. Overall, this is a letdown. A reduced length might have improved things.
