This kids’ film attempts to emulate movies like The Goonies or E.T., seemingly influenced by J.J. Abrams’s work, but it doesn’t quite succeed. A large sum of money appears to have been spent on special effects in an attempt to distract from a flimsy plot and some truly awful lines of dialogue—lines supposedly spoken by children who are acting terribly and constantly yelling in a way that's irritating. You honestly won’t lose out if you decide to skip Super 8.
