The premise involves a failing sun that requires the Icarus II to deploy a large explosive device in an attempt to reignite it, seven years after the presumed unsuccessful mission of its predecessor, Icarus I. It initially seems like a contrived setup designed solely for elaborate visual effects and lacking any scientific basis. However, the filmmakers made considerable effort to ground the narrative in believable science, and the interpersonal elements were as impressive as the plot itself. This is genuinely excellent, serious science fiction; my sole complaint concerns the action sequences, which felt indistinct and unsteady, inducing a feeling of motion sickness.
