This live-action Disney offering lands squarely in the “forgettable” group. *Summer Magic* simply isn’t enjoyable. Hayley Mills, Burl Ives, and Dorothy McGuire deliver acceptable performances as Nancy, Osh, and Margaret respectively, but nearly everything else about the film feels unremarkable. The musical pieces are easily overlooked, as is the story's basic idea and the actors playing smaller roles alongside Mills, Ives, and McGuire. While I’ve certainly witnessed worse from Disney, this one is at least passable. Regarding the storyline, it comes across as hastily assembled, lacking a clear sense of direction or meaningful links between events. The ending feels rushed, too. 1963 wasn't a particularly good year for live-action films from Disney. This movie contributes to the letdowns caused by *Son of Flubber*, *Miracle of the White Stallions*, and *Savage Sam*. I’m really hoping *The Incredible Journey* will bring their releases from that year to a satisfying finish.
