It’s exactly what you’d anticipate. *Sully* really works well. Tom Hanks gives a fantastic performance as the central figure; he seems ideally suited for the part. He’s an exceptional actor, that's clear. The story unfolds in a manner I found appealing; I appreciated the glimpses into various moments in time. While no one quite matches Hanks’s level of skill here, there are several other solid performances. Aaron Eckhart portrays Jeff effectively, and Anna Gunn (as Elizabeth) and Michael Rapaport (as Pete) have smaller parts. I didn't find any problems with the choices made for the actors. It recounts an unbelievable real event—it’s remarkable that it occurred in 2009; it feels more current than that somehow. I expect some artistic liberties were taken, as is typical of most movies, and that doesn't bother me. It succeeds as a well-made film, which is ultimately all I was hoping for.
