After a violent act of retribution in a small Mexican community leaves the young "Sujo" (Kevin Aguilar) without parents, his aunt "Neme" (Yadira Pérez) intervenes, saving him from a similar fate and raising him with the intention that he avoid the influences of their town—influences that could lead him down a path like his father’s. Keeping him away from such dangers proves challenging when his friends become entangled with the local cartel, prompting her to send the adolescent off to find work in the large city. There, Juan Jesús Varela takes on the role and begins to desire an education, forming a friendship with teacher "Susan" (Sandra Lorenzano). However, a visit from his childhood friend "Jai" (Alexis Varela) serves as a reminder that severing ties with his background will be far from simple. It’s a genuinely moving portrayal of someone born into a close-knit society defined by loyalty and violence. Straying from the established ways results in worthlessness and danger, potentially making an entire family a target. Aguilar's performance is very effective at establishing him as an innocent boy swept up in overwhelming events that leave him lost and alone, gradually transforming into the older character, whom Varela portrays with sensitivity, developing him into a young man whose ambitions, principles, and inherent goodness might enable him to escape a cycle of despair. Pérez also gives a powerful performance, blending practicality with a sense of spirituality as she tries to guide the boy—and his friends—away from temptation, despite the allure of money and excitement. His father had owned a car, an expensive one, and when the young man learns how to drive it, that vehicle could represent either an escape or a deeper involvement...? The film unfolds at a deliberate pace, ultimately focusing on decisions and the courage required to make them. Maintaining the existing order means acceptance, brutality, and a sense of normalcy; forging a new life demands disruptive changes and risks just as significant. This young man won't find any straightforward solutions.
