Three people—two brothers portrayed by Drew Roy and Shane Coffey, along with Haley Webb as a young woman—devise a scheme involving fabricated survival skills to earn money in Alaska; however, their plan doesn’t unfold as they expect. Cary Elwes takes on the role of the sheriff, who is also the girl's father, while Jason Momoa appears as a threatening local. "Sugar Mountain," released in 2016, shares similarities with "A Perfect Plan" from 1998, but it has the visual style and production scale reminiscent of films like “Into the Grizzly Maze” (2015) and “Hold the Dark” (2018). Certain commentators have dismissed the storyline as implausible, but I don’t find that to be true; it's quite convincing. Consider Frederick Cook's fraudulent claim in 1908 of reaching the summit of Mount McKinley—now known as Denali—or the "balloon boy" incident that occurred in Colorado back in 2009. If you appreciate any of those three films, this one should appeal to you too. I think it’s best not to reveal much more about it. The brief description above pretty much covers everything. Anna Hutchison delivers a noteworthy performance among the female cast members, even though her part is relatively minor. Melora Walters also appears in the film; she's familiar from playing George Costanza’s date in “The Hamptons” episode of *Seinfeld*, and for her role in the memorable kitchen scene within "Cold Mountain" (2003). The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 46 minutes, and filming took place in the Seward area of Alaska. GRADE: B+/A-
