The film presents an intriguing concept, set sometime soon when highly capable AI androids have become commonplace and essentially eliminated most jobs for people. Although the creation of this world is captivating and largely centers on a family's experiences—where the husband unintentionally sets his home robot on a path to prioritize making him "calmer" and "happier" above all else—it also raises thought-provoking questions about what happens to employment and society when robots take over human roles. Despite its potential for a big-budget film, the interesting setup isn't enough to overcome a flawed script that initially moves at an agonizingly slow pace and later feels far-fetched. Aside from a few performers who deliver convincing portrayals of androids—Megan Fox among them—the acting by the human cast is generally poor, particularly Michele Morrone’s. The subpar performances combined with the sluggish storyline make it difficult to become invested in the film, which drags on longer than its actual length.
