Selma Vilhunen’s direction and Kirsikka Saari’s writing avoid establishing a definitive stance, and the film doesn't offer any clear resolution either. The story raises questions—is teenage pregnancy positive? Negative? Reckless? A stroke of luck? Is it connected to insufficient schooling or difficult circumstances at home? And concerning the racism depicted, no one faces real repercussions. As someone watching, I felt like I needed some kind of emotional response, even if it meant disagreeing with what the story was trying to convey. Although ‘Stupid Young Heart’ contains upsetting, worrying, and captivating events, ultimately it feels like a pointless experience.
