Will Forte portrays Doug, who reluctantly cares for a dog named Reggie as payback against an ex-girlfriend he was unfaithful to. Every day, Doug takes Reggie on a ball-retrieval outing before abandoning him. The dog typically returns home, necessitating longer treks, and it’s during one of these journeys that Reggie—now lost and confronting some aggressive dogs—befriends Bug. They then embark on various escapades, encountering both allies and adversaries as they attempt to reunite Reggie with his owner, but this time with a considerably less compliant objective.
