Strange World seemed destined to become another Disney favorite, but several issues prevented me from fully appreciating it. Right away, I want to say that the animation is stunning; it’s likely the finest work Disney has produced yet. The animators really showcased their talent with the imaginative worlds and unusual beings. It's bursting with color and vitality, making it a joy to watch from beginning to end. The main story was entertaining, and I appreciated the concept of finding a technology that advances society while simultaneously harming it. There’s an important message about protecting the environment, even though it occasionally feels overly direct. The action sequences were well-done, the exploration captivating, and the variety within the world impressive. On a broad scale, this film resonated with me in almost every aspect. My biggest concerns with this movie involved the characters. While each one is individually interesting and distinct—though some are exaggerated stereotypes—their relationships felt disjointed. Many of their reasons for acting as they do seemed artificial and designed to force the generational parent-child conflict forward. This made it difficult to feel invested when the characters had intense disagreements, which lessened the film's overall impact. That being said, the blue creature was adorable, humorous, and absolutely perfect! I really liked him. There’s a great deal happening in this movie, and that ultimately holds it back. As a children’s film, the plot and themes felt scattered and occasionally confusing. Despite that, it's a visually impressive experience with plenty of laughs and exciting adventures.
