It doesn’t break a lot of new ground, though Noni Hazlehurst as "Granny Helga" is a definite plus. A severe snowstorm provides the backdrop for the story, prompting Granny Helga to call upon bug-hunter “Frank” (Jermaine Fowler) to check out some unsettling sounds within her apartment. He arrives despite the freezing weather, and it doesn’t take long before he seems to be contributing to the issue! What's behind all this? The narrative then jumps back a few days, revealing that a meteor shower brought a small spider into the possession of "Charlotte" (Alyla Browne). She imprisons it in a jar and feeds it live insects—a decision she’ll quickly regret. It develops a taste for living food and proves surprisingly capable of opening its container from within. The more it consumes, the larger it becomes, requiring ever-larger meals! No one is immune as her family – mom (Penelope Mitchell), new husband "Ethan" (Ryan Corr), and baby “Liam” – could soon find themselves on the menu! Meanwhile, the delightfully forgetful grandparent navigates the events seemingly without a clue. Or does she? The performances and script aren’t particularly memorable, and the familiar portrayal of a troubled family doesn't enhance the plot either. The visual effects are also underwhelming; it seems that limited resources hampered their creation, and the creature itself appears infrequently as the story expands to fill out its meager framework. It’s easy enough to watch, but it’s best enjoyed on television later.
