It does have that one song, I’ll give it that. But beyond that, this is a truly dreadful and cheap-feeling follow-up to "Saturday Night Fever," and it took six years to even get made. It's hard to understand who believed this was worthwhile—aside from whoever stood to profit—but John Travolta returns as “Tony,” now attempting to make it on the Broadway stage. He’s different now; he resists drinking, talks with a refined accent, and even uses fewer curse words. Director Sylvester Stallone does attempt some interesting camera work during the dance sequences, and that signature Travolta walk still has its distinctive sway, but the writing is awful and the characters feel constricted by some truly terrible acting—particularly Finola Hughes as the angry and difficult “Laura,” and Cynthia Rhodes who doesn’t do much better in her role as "Jackie." The Bee Gees' title track is the only song that really sticks with you on a soundtrack that’s packed, and strangely enough, it does fit reasonably well with the movie's rhythm. Ultimately, though, it’s just bad. Compared to this film, the original doesn't seem so bad at all.
