It’s approaching classic status—it just might be one. This is another film from Verhoeven that could easily be considered a semi-classic or a full-fledged classic. The intense action sequences are wrapped in a science fiction setting, featuring soldiers confronting enormous insects arriving from outer space. These bugs are substantial. I'm talking REALLY big bugs! And they’re nasty and malicious. What stands out is how enjoyable the characters are. Humorous moments arise primarily during the combat encounters and through brief appearances of unnamed individuals in what seem like advertisements. The direction is likely a major factor in its quality, but the script is quite good as well. While I personally favor *RoboCop*, this serves as an excellent alternative if that film isn't accessible, sharing a similar feel; some viewers even find it preferable. The distinction between them is so slight that you can’t really go wrong with either.
