I recall seeing this film in a cinema back in 1997; it was something completely new to me, with its graphic depictions of violence—dismemberment and blood everywhere. However, it all felt purposeful. Verhoeven possessed a knack for clever satire, and the movie is brimming with it, like when the students crush cockroaches while declaring they’re contributing. This stands as a true Paul Verhoeven achievement. It's likely the film I’ve watched more than any other in my collection, alongside *RoboCop*. There’s essentially no connection to Robert A. Heinlein's well-known and disputed Hugo Award-winning novel of the same title. I enjoyed both the book and the movie, and for distinct reasons!
