A young woman pursuing an acting career in Los Angeles (Alexandra Essoe) holds down a job at Big Taters while hoping to be cast in a groundbreaking movie. The film asks whether she’s prepared to accept the unstated costs associated with achieving fame and fortune. “Starry Eyes,” released in 2014, initially presents itself as a drama infused with wry humor. However, it gradually transforms into psychological horror reminiscent of “Rosemary’s Baby” before incorporating body horror aspects alongside slasher elements. The premise combines the atmosphere of "Hollywood Boulevard" and the unsettling tone of "Rosemary's Baby," but the movie develops into something akin to “Lillith” (2019). While “Lillith” suffered from technical shortcomings, this film is competently produced, although it’s held back by a subdued color scheme—a similar issue that plagued “Lillith.” Fabianne Therese delivers a noteworthy performance as Erin. One person suggested the movie celebrates devil worship and sacrificing one's soul to dark forces. Indeed! The runtime is 1 hour and 36 minutes, and filming took place in Los Angeles and La Cañada Flintridge, which sits roughly thirty minutes northeast of Hollywood. GRADE: B-/C+
