It's important to note that this film doesn’t resemble Stardust (2007) in any meaningful way beyond a superficial similarity in their starting points. A significant problem lies in the protagonist’s lack of control over her own actions; as a result, it's difficult to form any kind of connection with her. She seems simply to be present for the events unfolding around her, reacting passively. The male character also comes across as rather helpless and uninvolved, mostly just producing unexpected items seemingly at random. Likewise, the antagonists are underdeveloped, existing only to be “bad” without any real motivation or purpose. The sole exception is John Rhys-Davies, who manages to make his character surprisingly engaging through an over-the-top performance. The conclusion feels incredibly generic and tedious, something best skipped even if you found some enjoyment in the rest of the film. Despite its technical competence—which prevents me from assigning a worse rating—it's ultimately a very uninspired and monotonous experience. The musical score, which effectively accentuates key moments, stands out as one of the few positive aspects.
