This was genuinely entertaining. It’s a straightforward action-adventure story taking place in space. The filmmakers didn’t try to add any deeper meaning or explore complex ideas; it’s purely an interstellar shooting gallery. Chris Pine's performance felt rather stiff, Zachary Quinto delivered an acceptable impression of "Mr. Spock," and Anton Yeltsin appeared to be having fun struggling with the ship’s computer because of his very strong “Chekhov” accent. Unfortunately, Eric Bana didn't manage to convey any real threat as "Nero," and Simon Pegg’s portrayal of "Scotty" was simply annoying, but the visual effects are remarkable. If you want something undemanding with laser guns, then this movie should satisfy.
