While _Standoff_ seems like just another straightforward action film, it turns out to be more complex than first impressions suggest. The performances of the three main characters are exceptional; even the role played by a young actor, "Bird," was remarkable. It would have been disastrous if any of them had faltered, but fortunately, each one seemed committed to their part. I admit I was concerned that Lawrence Fishburne might be there just for an easy payday, but he delivered what is arguably his strongest performance in quite some time. The film does experience a few slow moments and has some minor storylines that aren't fully explored. Nevertheless, the overall quality, particularly the ending, made _Standoff_ a welcome surprise in 2016. _Final rating:★★★ - I suggest checking it out._
