The film presents a straightforward narrative with grace, focusing on two well-developed men nearing the close of their professional lives. I’m not sure I share the view that streamlining the storyline improved *Stan & Ollie*. A depiction of their time working together during their peak would have highlighted their collaborative dynamic and accomplishments as a pair; instead, this approach concentrates on revealing their individual personalities. It gets bogged down in minutiae. Coogan and Reilly deliver very believable performances. Although they still harbor aspirations that drive an effort to stage a revival, these ambitions are tempered by the awareness that they’ve passed their best years. They appreciate the fondness and affection of their fans while simultaneously striving to transcend it. The film manages to conclude on an upbeat note, even if their objectives aren't fully realized. What resonated with me most was how the stars’ wives were portrayed. As one of the agent characters points out, they too form a kind of partnership. Initially, they don't appear to get along well, but glimpses of mutual regard and amusement emerge between them, and it’s clear that both women deeply care for their celebrated husbands. As I mentioned earlier, Coogan and Reilly are excellent in this film, but the two supporting characters would have diminished the overall quality.
