"Stakeout" feels like a movie designed specifically to do exactly what it sets out to do, and it's been put together very skillfully with that goal in mind. It’s clearly intended for wide appeal, which usually suggests a predictable and formulaic product relying heavily on expensive action set pieces while overlooking other aspects of the filmmaking. That definitely holds true to some extent here, but thankfully, there's also something more going on. The filmmakers seemed especially concerned with making it enjoyable, and that really shines through. Ultimately, this translates into a very absorbing film that moves along well and has greater character development and narrative substance than you might anticipate, complete with unexpected moments of both humor and danger.
