It feels like I’m repeating myself lately, but “scripts matter.” A weak screenplay really can damage what might have been a truly good movie or show. And here's another example: "Squad 36." Let’s begin by noting the things this film does well. The performances are strong, the action sequences are acceptable if not outstanding, and the story has genuine feeling. However, the script is where it fails. It becomes confusing, like a tangled mess batted around by an uninterested cat. The narrative feels scattered, making it very hard to keep track of what's happening. Even when explanations appear, they don’t quite land because viewers get so disoriented that there isn't enough anticipation leading up to the ending. It’s disappointing, because you can sense the potential this film had. Ultimately, no amount of great acting or a touching backstory can compensate for such a poorly written script. It is worth watching for the performances and action sequences, but that’s really the only reason I can suggest checking out "Squad 36."
