It’s an acceptable film, though I don't foresee myself revisiting it, and I might suggest it to people who are younger. The content doesn't really offer much for more mature viewers. Perhaps parents will find some amusement in watching and picturing their own children experiencing this...though the frequent arguments between siblings may detract from that enjoyment. Alan Cumming’s portrayal of a character resembling Willy Wonka was undeniably the highlight, and I feel he should have been chosen for that part instead of Depp during the remake. The ensemble is an unusual mix, but they deliver strong performances, and the children's scenes depicting conflict among themselves were particularly well-executed. Overall, there’s more good than bad to be found here, but with so many other choices available, it’s hard to strongly urge anyone to watch this at the moment.
