"Spring Breakdown," which came out in 2009 and has Ryan Shiraki as its director, centers on three women past the age of thirty who consider themselves uncool (played by Amy Poehler, Parker Posey, and Rachel Dratch), and they resolve to experience Spring Break firsthand at South Padre Island in Texas. Their task is to supervise a senator’s daughter (Amber Tamblyn) so she doesn't cause trouble. Jane Lynch takes on the role of the politician, while Missi Pyle appears as someone who enjoys partying. The story has some charm and there are moments that elicit gentle laughter, and the level of vulgarity is restrained, but it feels like a chance that wasn’t fully realized. I suspect women will find more to enjoy than I did; it really seems geared toward a female audience. It does offer a glimpse into the unpleasant reality behind Spring Break's image of bikinis and beer (vomiting on the sand while intoxicated and having encounters with people you don't know – wonderful, right!). The movie has a runtime of 84 minutes and filming took place at South Padre Island in Texas, along with Long Beach & Los Angeles (UCLA) in California. GRADE: C- (4.5/10)
