Years before, “Allen” (Tom Hanks) experienced an unexplained underwater rescue. Now he runs a fish market alongside his brother "Freddie" (John Candy). A return to Cape Cod brings another mishap, and predictably, the same person appears as his savior—this time their eyes connect across rough water, and she subsequently comes ashore. An immediate attraction blossoms into what seems like love, leading her to move in with him. She identifies herself as "Madison," referencing both a street and a president, and after spending some time at Bloomingdale's television department, she acquires enough English to participate in the film’s often-physical humor—or finally have a conversation afterward! However, eccentric scientist “Prof. Kornbluth” (Eugene Levy) begins pursuing her, and following several scenes involving water thrown at similarly dressed couples, the pair are imprisoned within a laboratory slated for unpleasant testing. Will they manage to evade their pursuers and return her to the ocean before a six-day deadline, preventing her from being permanently stranded? The premise holds promise, and it’s genuinely amusing during the initial discovery sequences. Unfortunately, the plot becomes repetitive, and his frustratingly self-centered brother only serves to complicate matters, eventually resembling an extended, somewhat absurd installment of "The A-Team." It's acceptable viewing, but I didn’t sense any spark between the leads—I never considered Hannah a particularly captivating performer—and it ultimately feels unremarkable.
