The initial idea behind Spiderhead held real promise, but the final product was disappointing. The film explores a scenario involving medications designed to induce feelings like affection or anxiety in individuals participating in prison experiments. I had hoped for a narrative exploring the characters' internal struggles as they questioned their relationships and choices due to the artificial emotions—a deeper examination of their mental state. What we got, though, felt like a standard story about someone privileged engaging in questionable actions that harm others. Despite having talented performers and a skilled director involved, I was left wanting something more substantial. In the end, Spiderhead is just another film unlikely to stick with you, squandering an intriguing setup and considerable talent.
