I need to be straightforward from the beginning: I’m just not connecting with MJ. The character is meant to be a redhead, portrayed as overtly sensual, and comfortable flaunting her attractiveness while acknowledging she’s far above Peter Parker’s station. This version deviates too much from what's written in the comics for my taste. The same holds true for Flash. Traditionally, he’s the guy who fades away immediately after high school—all brawn and no intellect. But this Flash has a trajectory ahead of him; he won’t be delivering pizzas when I go to see my folks. However, setting that aside, it remains an enjoyable film, though not as consistently humorous as the earlier one. Tom Holland still manages to shine, but the overall feel is darker and more serious. And truthfully, Jake Gyllenhaal isn't nearly as effective a villain compared to Michael Keaton’s performance; he’s simply grating to watch, which has always been my impression of him. The plot development managed to surprise my wife, but anyone who knows the comics could have anticipated it from the previews. It wasn’t unexpected for those of us familiar with the source material. Despite this, I found it entertaining and emotionally resonant, and it showed appreciation for the Avengers in a way that I worry some future installments might neglect. That being said, it couldn't replicate the humor of *Homecoming* and still make sense within the story.
