I recently took my children to see Spider-Man: Far From Home, and I wanted to jot down some thoughts while they were still clear in my head. It was an okay film, certainly. I don’t feel like I wasted my money seeing it on the big screen, but that's really the extent of my enthusiasm. It doesn’t reach greatness, and the final scene… well, it’s a standard, disappointing Hollywood ending where the creative team seems unwilling to put in the effort needed for something clever, so they resort to a predictable sensational cliffhanger. Like its predecessor, Spider-Man: Homecoming, this is geared toward a younger audience. That might be part of why I feel only moderately positive about it. This one didn’t seem quite as juvenile as the last, but there's still a lot of adolescent drama and nonsense in it. The storyline is entirely foreseeable, too. The special effects are impressive, though, and that’s really what makes the movie worthwhile, at least for me. The final battle with all those drones swirling around alongside Mysterio’s illusions was pretty neat. Maybe a little excessive, but still cool.
