The movie feels like a rundown house, similar to the one from "The Waltons," except this one is home to two sisters and a brother who initially seem alright, but then start to decline into episodes of bizarre behavior. Is it perilous? Just look at Mantan Moreland's experience in the very beginning, attempting to deliver a letter—it’s the last delivery he ever makes! Their chauffeur, “Bruno” (Lon Chaney Jr.), tries his best to keep things under control, but even he struggles when greedy relatives and their lawyer show up wanting what they believe is rightfully theirs. I would have fled immediately, but these characters stubbornly stick around, soon wishing they had. It’s an amusing experience, though it doesn't attempt to explore or explain the mental instability present in the children—except for a suggestion that maybe their parents and even the family pet might be the same person! The performances are fairly unremarkable, the script lacks any nuance or intrigue, and what remains is a collection of somewhat repetitive spoofy horror situations that lose their appeal. It isn’t funny, whether intentionally or not, and it moves at a decent pace for 80 minutes, but ultimately it's not something I would choose to see again.
